WAUWATOSA — A screening of the film, “Waterwalk,” documenting the 1,000-mile canoe journey a father and son took to retrace the Marquette/Joliet discovery route of the Mississippi River, will mark the grand reopening of the Rosebud Cinema at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7 at 6823 W. North Ave.
The film, based on the true story of laid off newspaper editor Steven Faulkner and his 17-year-old adopted son Justin who find each other on the 1,000-mile journey, features scenes shot at locations throughout Wisconsin, including St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wauwatosa. Local actors, including St. Jude the Apostle School students, John McGivern and Mary MacDonald Kerr are also featured. Kerr, who plays Faulkner’s wife, Joy, will be at the screening.
Doors open at 5:45 p.m. for the 6:15 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony with Wauwatosa Mayor Kathleen Ehley, followed by the 120-minute film based on Faulkner’s book, “WaterWalk: A Passage of Ghosts.”
Tickets are $15 at the door and are limited to the first 160 guests. All proceeds will benefit Variety – The Children’s Charity of Wisconsin serving children with physical disabilities.
Additional screenings will take place at noon and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8; and noon on Sunday, Sept. 9, Saturday, Sept. 15 and Sunday, Sept. 16 for $5.
