MarkForBlogHow many of you saw “Hearing God,” a half-hour documentary that aired on WISN Channel 12 one Sunday afternoon? For those of you who didn’t see or know about it, it was about the ordination of Fr. Christopher Klusman (Catholic Herald, May 4), a newly ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee who went to the seminary here in St. Francis. Now, I’m sure that many of you know Chris, and he is, when he gets a chance, of course, a frequent visitor and friend to the library – he even used to help out with shelving and such while at the seminary.

Anyhow, back to the documentary. Although it was only a half-hour long, it was very powerful. The documentary, produced by Bob Dolan Productions, focused on Christopher, the only profoundly Deaf priest ordained in the entire country in 2011, the first profoundly Deaf priest to come through Saint Francis de Sales Seminary and one of less than 10 profoundly Deaf priests in the United States – these numbers come from a newspaper article written by Annysa Johnson of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which I found on the Portland Press Herald website. The documentary was incredible that they were able to portray Christopher exactly how he is, extremely friendly and easy going, and excited to begin his time in the priesthood. For me it was interesting, not only did I know a lot of the people and places portrayed, but in knowing Christopher and listening to him – he both speaks and signs at different points – in the documentary, I saw the Christopher I see when he comes into the library.

If you did not see this documentary and would like to, you are in luck, we will be getting a copy from the publisher in the upcoming weeks and will be adding it to our collection here at Salzmann.

As always, if you have any ideas and comments for things I could change, please let me know. These are always appreciated, anything I can do to make this better I will strive my best to accomplish.
