training-color-retI was a little girl when Pope John Paul I died and was succeeded by Pope John Paul II. Upon hearing the news of the new pope, I commented to my mom on the incredible coincidence that another man of the same name was chosen to be pontiff. My mom explained to me how popes change their names once they are elected.

I decided then that if my church’s tradition would evolve to include women priests, and I would ever find myself in a position to be elected pope, I would change my name to Chrissy – a name that sounded substantially more fun to me than Annemarie.

MaryangelaHe reminded me of Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan. The priest celebrating Easter Mass in the chapel at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Ga., was every bit as enthusiastic, humorous and obviously in love with the priesthood and the Catholic Church as is Milwaukee’s former archbishop.

Toward the end of Mass, Fr. Patrick Van Durme shared with the congregation the unique perspective he enjoyed that morning from his vantage point near the altar.

“Because you were facing me, you couldn’t see what was going on in the ‘crying room’ area,” he explained. He described a scene where parents were running every which way, diving after and chasing their offspring, trying to maintain some semblance of order.
