After a long and active life, Genevieve Marietta (Gagliano) Sanfelippo, peacefully went to her eternal rest on Nov. 27, 2010 joining her late husband of 63 years, Dr. Michael Sanfelippo. Surviving are her loving sons, Dr. Peter M. (Cecelia) Sanfelippo and Michael J. (Nancy) Sanfelippo. Her grandchildren were the love of her life: Anthony (Kristi); Peter II (Patty); Michael; Andrew; Teresa Kilgallen (Brian); Anne; Allison and Jonathon. She was blessed with a life long enough to enjoy eight great-grandchildren. Genevieve is also survived by her brother, Joseph (Betty), and her sister, Frances Brown. She had many loving nieces and nephews.
Genevieve cherished her many friends at the Milwaukee Catholic Home where she was an active participant in many of the activities. Genevieve’s favorite was her role as the “Roving Reporter” for the Milwaukee Catholic Home News Notes.
Genevieve graduated from Messmer High School. She attended Mount Mary College until her marriage to Michael Sanfelippo on Aug. 11, 1937. They were longtime residents of Shorewood and Whitefish Bay, and members of St. Robert Catholic Church and Old St. Mary’s Church, before moving to the Milwaukee Catholic Home in 1998, where she continued to reside after his death in 2001. At 97 she published a children’s book, “The Adventures of Peter Churchmouse.”
In loving memory of Genevieve, donations in her name may be made to the Milwaukee Catholic Home for maintenance of the chapel or toward the Fine Arts Program, 2462 N. Prospect Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53211.
Genevieve was very grateful to Fr. Charles Keefe for his spiritual guidance and friendship and was appreciative for the care she received from her caregivers, Marie Paul and Tina Stueve, who were with her from her early residence at the Milwaukee Catholic Home, as well as Minnie Olinger. She credited them with helping her maintain her active and long life.
