OTTAWA, Ontario –– One student was killed and another seriously injured after an explosion ripped through an auto shop at Mother Teresa High School in suburban Ottawa.
Police reported the students had been cutting metal to make barbecues when residue in a 55-gallon drum exploded May 26.
Eric Leighton, 18, was resuscitated by paramedics but later died at the hospital. Four other students and a 33-year-old teacher were also sent to the hospital.
The Ottawa Catholic School Board Critical Incident Team of psychologists, chaplains, counselors and staff will provide support to students and staff.
