50 Parish Stops, Public Processions, Holy Hours and More Offered June 18-26

What will you walk away with if you literally walk with Jesus?

There’s an easy way to find out — start planning your time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament when the historic National Eucharistic Pilgrimage comes our way June 18-26.

Words like “historic” and “once in a lifetime” are commonly used to describe the unique pilgrimage that began May 17 on the north, south, east and west edges of the United States.

“Come join the crowds who will follow him across our archdiocese. Bring your brokenness and struggles and ask him to heal and transform them for the life of the world,” said Margaret Rhody, Associate Director for Parish Renewal with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Office of Evangelization and Catechesis.

Moving south from Mount Calvary in Fond du Lac County, the pilgrimage procession is a public witness of faith that will pass through more than 50 parishes, Marian shrines and retreat centers in the 10-county Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

There will be many ways anyone may participate at any parish, ranging from walking one to six miles as part of the procession to simply being present as a witness to faith as the procession passes by. Other ways to take part include morning Masses, brief stops at churches for Eucharistic Adoration and Encounter Nights with worship, reflection and Reconciliation offered.

Many, many details are available in the listing in this issue, but organizers recommend rechecking times at www.archmil.org/Pilgrimage/stops on the day of a service or event because all procession and location stop times are estimates that will be updated online in real time.  In the case of extreme heat or inclement weather, procession segments may be replaced with extended Eucharistic Adoration indoors.

For months, Our Lady of the Holyland Parish has been excited about being a site for the first pilgrimage processions and services in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, said Sheila Skiff, parish Director of Religious Education.

“Having the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage come right through the Holyland is an amazing opportunity and privilege to participate in this national movement for revival in the Church,” she said. The parish will host an Encounter Night, all-night adoration, a morning Mass and then take part in a procession through Mount Calvary to St. Lawrence Seminary High School.

The Marian Route that passes through the Archdiocese of Milwaukee began in northern Minnesota and will arrive here after it travels through the La Crosse and Green Bay dioceses. Six perpetual pilgrimages selected by the National Eucharistic Revival will complete the entire Marian Route, along with two seminarians and two religious brothers. Fr. John Paul Mitchell, Director of Propaedeutic Formation at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary, will accompany them as their chaplain during their time in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

People who have participated in other communities so far say they hope their historic public witness has a lasting impact on their communities. They find their hearts moved by how passersby are touched by this public witness to the Catholic faith.

The four routes will form a cross when they converge before 50,000 people at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis at the start of the five-day National Eucharistic Congress that begins July 17.

In addition to checking the complete listing of pilgrimage-related places, dates and times, consider these possibilities based on your availability:

Free on weekday mornings? Come to the daily Mass that will kick off the start of that day’s journey from a host parish and join in a one-mile Solemn Procession that immediately follows. All are welcome to the Mass, whether they join the procession or not.

Free weekdays during the day? Meet up with the pilgrimage at one or more of its five to 10 scheduled stops for the day to join in Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction. All are welcome to be present in the church or outside along the procession route. Afterward, join the procession for a block or longer, but be sure to make a plan to return to your home or vehicle, and pack water and snacks.

Available only evenings? Encounter Nights are every night except Sunday. These one-hour services include Eucharistic Adoration, an inspiring message, prayer with music, silent prayer, prayer teams available and the opportunity for Reconciliation. These are a great opportunity to invite friends who need to experience God’s personal love for them or who have never experienced Eucharistic Adoration.

Bringing children or going to multiple sites? Pick up a free “passport” booklet at the welcome table of the first church you visit. Collect stamps at each stop you visit.

What about the weekend? See the listing and story in this issue of special events on June 21-23 that include procession on the Waukesha parade route, prayer at the Archdiocesan Marian Shrine (Fatima Shrine), service spotlight at Kinship Community Food Center, and the special 6.7-mile Source and Summit Eucharistic Procession following the 9 a.m. Mass with Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki on Sunday, June 23, at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Milwaukee.

Registration for all events is required and available at archmil.org.
