FRANCIS — St. Eugene, Fox Point, on the boys’ side and St. Mary, Elm Grove, for the girls, continue their Cinderella stories in the Padre Serra tournament.

On March 10, St. Eugene boys beat Lumen Christi, Mequon, 28-25 to advance to play St. John Vianney, Brookfield, March 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Winners of the boys’ and girls’ games March 15 and 16 will go to the final four. The 54th annual Padre Serra championship games will be March 18 at 1:15 p.m. for the girls and 4 p.m. for the boys.

“(St. Eugene) is amongst the ones and twos,” Bob Roloff, selection committee member, said. “It’s been a while since we had an eight seed with the ones and twos.”

On the girls’ side, St. Mary pulled off a second upset, defeating St. Robert, Shorewood, 20-19. They’ll play Our Lady of Grace/St. Lucy, Racine, March 15 at 6:30 p.m.

St. Mary, Menomonee Falls, edged St. Anthony on the Lake, Pewaukee, 21-20. They’ll play St. Matthias, who survived a double-overtime victory against St. John Vianney, Brookfield, 37-33.

“It’s expected to have some close games,” Roloff said. “You never know. Lumen Christi defeated St. Charles, Hartland 27-9, and will play St. Alphonsus, Greendale, March 15 at 5:30 p.m.

St. Dominic, Brookfield, will face St. Gregory the Great/Holy Apostles, New Berlin, March 15 at 8:45 p.m. Each team won handedly last weekend.

On the boys’ side, St. Catherine, Racine downed Christ Child Academy, Sheboygan, 48-8. St. Catherine will play Holy Family, Whitefish Bay, March 16 at 5:30 p.m.

Holy Apostles, New Berlin, defeated St. Jerome, Oconomowoc, 41-35 and will play St. Dominic, Brookfield at 8:30 p.m. March 16.

St. Charles, Hartland tips off against Waukesha Catholic School System at 6:30 p.m. March 16. Each team won easily last weekend.
