MILWAUKEE – On Monday, Jan. 17, the office of Archbishop of Milwaukee Jerome E. Listecki contacted the office of Archbishop of Chicago Cardinal Francis George to place a friendly bet, according to a press release. “When the Green Bay Packers beat the Chicago Bears, Cardinal George will send Archbishop Listecki a Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. In the unlikely event that the Packers lose, Sargento Foods Inc., Plymouth, Wis., will send a cheese gift basket to Cardinal George on behalf of Archbishop Listecki,” the press release stated.
The release stated that since Sargento is the official cheese of Lambeau Field, Lou Gentine, chief executive officer “graciously offered to ante up for Archbishop Listecki’s wager.”
The bet loser will have to “‘pay-up’ shortly after the NFC Division Championship Packers/Bears game,” Sunday, Jan. 23.
“I’m looking forward to munching on my pizza,” Archbishop Listecki, a Chicago native and life-long Bears’ fan, said in the press release.
