On multiple levels the Ryan Braun revelations are bad, but what really gripes me is that with all of the coverage he’s been garnering, the media haven’t been paying much attention to Pope Francis in Rio de Janeiro.

The multi-million dollar god in the batter’s box that used performance enhancing drugs, lied about it, and trashed other people in the process gets the coverage, while the Christ-like person who visits the sick and the poor gets almost none.

Yeah, that’s a problem — for us, the society in which we live, and the media who shape it.

It won’t be heard at Miller Park, but if Braun returns to the Brewers next season, his coming-to-bat music should be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMmNDU1Mrig or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jg2oR91_r5I.

Prince of a name: While I took little interest in the royal birth,  I did notice William and Kate gave their newborn son a triad of very Catholic names: George Alexander Louis. How many Catholic clergy wish couples presenting their son or daughter for baptism would select even one Catholic name?

Speaking of parenthood, tomorrow, July 26, is the Feast of Ss. Joachim and Anne, parents of the Blessed Mother, and patron saints of parents. If I get to heaven, those two are definitely in my top 25 list of people I want to meet.
