Hello everybody. Hope your summer has been going well. I cannot believe that it is already toward the middle of July. Today’s blog is going to be a reminder and an update on a new book discussion group taking place at the library, “Poperies: a Papal Reading Group.” The goal is to read papal works, books, letters, encyclicals, etc., and to discuss them with other interested people.

The third meeting for the group will be Tuesday, July 23, starting at 6:30pm at the Salzmann Library (address below). Cookies and coffee are available.

Right now the group has met twice, working on Pope Benedict’s early work, “Introduction to Christianity.” Having been able to make the second meeting, and working through the book myself, I know that it is better to discuss this book with others to get a better understanding of his work. Pope Benedict is a wonderful theologian, and his extensive knowledge comes through in this work, however it pays to talk some of his points out to truly understand what he is saying.

The nice thing with this book discussion is that the group is looking at breaking books into segments to discuss. For example, the first meeting was on the introduction of the “Introduction to Christianity”book, last time was on part 1, and this upcoming discussion will be focusing on Part 2: #1.

Everybody is welcome. If you have any other questions, you can contact Clara Kimani (who has put the group together) at clarameghan@gmail.com or (715) 207-2260. In this third meeting, the group is also going to provide some ideas for the next book or papal work to read, some talk has been on the new encyclical just released, but the true brainstorming will happen next time.

As always, if you have any ideas and comments for things I could change, please let me know. If you have any books that you have read or have read the books I mention, please leave a comment. We here at Salzmann also want to know what people are reading. Comments are always appreciated – anything I can do to make this better I will strive my best to accomplish.
