Last week I mentioned that this week would have the audio available from Bishop Sklba’s Vatican II lecture from April. Although a little delayed, the talk will remain relevant, as Bishop Sklba talked about the implementation of the reforms of Vatican II, both through the first 50 years and into the future.

He interjected his talk with stories and anecdotes about what it was like being there (Bishop Sklba was studying in Rome at the time of the start of the council), and he gave an informative and lively talk about the subject along with an excellent Q-and-A afterwards. It was a great crowd, more than 150 people, and the largest anybody could remember for a Salzmann Library event.

Thankfully, he gave us permission to record the talk and offer it online to everybody who couldn’t be there. That’s what delayed this blog post, getting the audio available for online access. You can now listen by downloading the audio of the talk and the audio of the Q-and-A. They will also be available through our website, www.sfs.edu/Salzmann, under the Salzmann Selections area. If it is not there, please check back shortly.

The success of not only Bishop Sklba’s talk but Fr. Mel’s Fall lecture has convinced us that we will offer another set of lectures in the fall and spring of this upcoming year. Although times, topics and speakers have not been officially decided, I will be sure to let you know when we do have more concrete information. Also, if you have any thoughts or ideas for possible topics please feel free to contact us about them, and we will take them into consideration.

As always, if you have any ideas and comments for things I could change, please let me know. If you have any books that you have read or have read the books I mention, please leave a comment. We here at Salzmann also want to know what people are reading. Comments are always appreciated – anything I can do to make this better I will strive my best to accomplish.
