MarkForBlogComing up at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17th is Salzmann Library’s Bimonthly Book Discussion! This book discussion will be on the first book in Sigrid Undset’s world-renowned Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy, “The Bridal Wreath.”

Written in the 1920s, the Kristin Lavransdatter books tell of the life of Kristin from birth to death in 1400s medieval Scandinavia. Sigrid Undset was the second woman and the first Catholic to win the Nobel Prize for Literature for her work in 1928. The first book, “The Bridal Wreath” tells the tale of Kristin’s life from her childhood days to the early stages of womanhood.

“In Kristin Lavransdatter (1920-1922), Sigrid Undset interweaves political, social, and religious history with the daily aspects of family life to create a colorful, richly detailed tapestry of Norway during the fourteenth-century. The trilogy, however, is more than a journey into the past. Undset’s own life – her familiarity with Norse sagas and folklore and with a wide range of medieval literature, her experiences as a daughter, wife, and mother, and her deep religious faith – profoundly influenced her writing. Her grasp of the connections between past and present and of human nature itself, combined with the extraordinary quality of her writing, sets her works far above the genre of “historical novels.”- excerpt taken from Amazon.com.

Whether you have or haven’t read the book, please join us for the discussion at 6:30 p.m. Beverages and cookies are available throughout.

As always, if you have any ideas and comments for things I could change, please let me know. If you have any books that you have read or have read the books I mention, please leave a comment. We here at Salzmann also want to know what people are reading. Comments are always appreciated – anything I can do to make this better I will strive my best to accomplish.
