Just starting to return to 98.6. Maybe I’m old school when it comes to theology, but this summer’s heat could be a reminder of how we don’t want to spend the afterlife.

A lot has happened since I last wrote. Some thoughts:

Aurora: God have mercy on the shooter’s soul and healing on the hearts of the deceased’s loved ones.

Penn State: Healing for the victims. Evidence that sexual abuse of children was and is a societal sickness and not unique to Catholic clergy during the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s.

Mediation: As of July 20, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Susan V. Kelley has stayed the Chapter 11 proceedings involving the Archdiocese of Milwaukee for 60 days so that its attorneys and those representing the creditors can participate in mediation being overseen by retired U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Randall Newsome. That this process may lead to resolution is definitely something that should be included in the Prayer of the Faithful at every Mass celebrated in the archdiocese.

Brewers: At the rate they’re going, look for them to play their remaining games at Simmons Field and Zirkel Field in Milwaukee County.
Speaking of the Brewers, they’re sponsoring their first mini-marathon Sept. 22. For those who stop running before the finish line, someone from the bullpen will walk them in. 
“So, the other night, I’m on my way to …”: I was planning to write that little has been heard from Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan this summer when we received word that he will appear on a comedy program at Fordham University with Stephen Colbert and Jesuit Fr. James Martin on Sept. 14. Maybe the cardinal has been spending free summer nights donning a disguise and trying out new material during open mic nights at small New York comedy clubs.

Look what $38,000 will get your 6-year-old: Speaking of New York, Suri Cruise, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, will be attending the city’s Convent of the Sacred Heart this year at the cost of $38K per year.

What does a kid bring to show and tell at a school that charges that kind of tuition? Bake sales must be interesting, too. And what about parent-teacher conferences?

According to NBC News.com, “When classes begin, the previously homeschooled Suri will be required to attend Catholic mass (sic) every Thursday.”And maybe she and her mother will attend on Sunday, too.
