Every once in awhile I like to give an update on new items we are continuing to acquire at the library. We recently added to the collection, a number of DVDs, and I want to mention some of them. These new titles contain everything from beloved movies to information on the saints to documentaries, from Ignatius Press and EWTN to PBS and Warner Brothers.

Some of the documentaries are:

“Faith of our Fathers: In Search of the English Martyrs” from Ignatius Press. As the title suggests, this is about the great Catholic figures throughout England and their sacrifices, from the well-known, like Thomas More, to the lesser-known, like Roger Wrenno.

“Rookies in Rome,” an EWTN Documentary. Bob Dolan hosts a look into the day-to-day experiences of six seminarians at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, where some of our own seminarians are studying.

“Reflections on the Mass: A Guide to Interior Participation” from St. Joseph Communications. Seven Catholic speakers offer their insights and expertise into the Holy Mass, and how a person can get more out of it.

Several of the new pictures on saints include:

“Saint John Baptist de la Salle: The Patron Saint of Teachers,” a 90-minute movie by Ignatius Press.

“Saint Frances of Rome,” a 60-minute presentation from EWTN about this 14th century Italian saint.

“Love is a Choice: The life of St. Gianna Molla,” a 60 minute film from Ignatius Press about a lady who sacrificed everything to save her unborn child.

Finally, several of the new (at least to our collection) movies are:

“Come to the Stable” with Loretta Young and Celeste Holm; 1949 from 20th Century Fox

“The Nun’s Story” with Audrey Hepburn; 1958 from Warner Bros., which earned 8 Oscar Nominations

“Bella” with Eduardo Verastegui and Tammy Blanchard; 2006 from Lionsgate Film which also won multiple Independent Film Festival awards, including People’s Choice, the Legacy Award and was the #1 top-rated movie of 2007.

As always, if you have any ideas and comments for things I could change, please let me know. If you have any books that you have read or have read the books I mention, please leave a comment. We here at Salzmann also want to know what people are reading. Comments are always appreciated – anything I can do to make this better I will strive my best to accomplish.
