ST. FRANCIS — Fr. Roy A. Mateljan retired from active priestly ministry Aug. 31. Born in Milwaukee, he attended Saint Francis Minor and Major seminaries.

Fr. Roy A. Mateljan

Ordained May 20, 1967 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Fr. Mateljan served the parishes of St. James, Kenosha (1967-1969); St.
Agnes, Milwaukee (1969- 1970); and St. Patrick, Fond du Lac (1970-1972).

In 1972 Fr. Mateljan served at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee campus ministry and later as the director of d o w n t o w n campus ministry in 1977, and in 1978 he also became the archdiocesan director of campus ministry.

Fr. Mateljan served at Sacred Heart, Fond du Lac (1981- 1983); St. Wenceslaus, Ripon, as coordinator of campus ministry in Ripon (1981-1984); at St. George, Kenosha (1984- 1990); St. Stephen, Milwaukee (1990-1992); St. Therese, Kenosha (1994); St. Kilian,
Hartford (1994); St. Catherine, Mapleton (1994); Immaculate Conception, Sheboygan (1995); and chaplin at Marian College, Fond du Lac (1995-2000).

He was chaplain of the pastoral care department at St. Luke’s Medical Center (2003- 2007); assisting priest at St. Dominic, St. Clement, and Holy Name, Sheboygan (2007-2008); and chaplain at Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee (2008-2009).
