MILWAUKEE — Eleven men will be ordained deacons of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee by Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on Saturday, Sept. 8. The deacons will serve in a variety of ministries at their parishes and in their communities. The following short biographies were compiled based on answers the men provided in a written questionnaire.

The men being ordained are:

MichaelBowenMichael BowenMichael Bowen, 61, a member of St. Monica Parish, Whitefish Bay, is married to Sara and they have five children, Rebecca, 32, Christopher, 30, John, 22, Marguerite, 21, and James, 19. Bowen, an attorney with Foley & Lardner LLP, is a 1969 graduate of Rockhurst High School, a Jesuit high school in Kansas City, Mo.

He received a Bachelor of Arts in history and graduated summa cum laude from Rockhurst College, Kansas City, Mo., in 1973; a juris doctor degree from Harvard Law School in 1976.

His diaconal ministry will focus on parish ministry.

His Mass of Thanksgiving will on Sunday, Sept. 9, 10:15 a.m., at St. Monica Parish, Whitefish Bay.

JamesGoetterJames P. GoetterJames P. Goetter, 61, a member of St. Mary Parish, Menomonee Falls, is married to Monica and they have 16 children ranging in age from 38 to 11: Benjamin (Dana), Joseph (Aimee), Angela, Amanda (Rueben), Daniel, Timothy, Emily (Jerry), Aimee, Samuel, Andrew, Elizabeth, Abigail, Maria, Alicia, Isaac and Lucas.

Goetter, owner of two flooring and cabinet businesses, The Floor Mart of Brookfield and JJJ Carpets & Cabinets Inc., is a 1969 graduate of Messmer High School, Milwaukee. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in 1973.

His diaconal ministry will include hospital visitation, weddings, baptisms and funeral vigils.

His Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 9, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary Parish, Menomonee Falls.

DalePaczkowskiDale R. PaczkowskiDale R. Paczkowski, 61, a member of Holy Family Catholic Community, Fond du Lac, is married to Lucy and they have two children, Laura, 32 and Lisa, 29.

He is a 1969 graduate of Notre Dame High School, Milwaukee. Paczkowski was employed at Water Operations for the City of Fond du Lac and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Wisconsin, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Norbert College, De Pere, in and a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Marquette University, Milwaukee.

His diaconal ministry will involve visiting parishioners at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac, nursing homes, hospice centers and bringing Communion to the homebound.

His Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 9, 10:15 a.m., at Holy Family Parish, Fond du Lac.

AllenOlsonAllen B. OlsonAllen B. Olson, who will be 52 on Sept. 12, is a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, North Lake. He is married to Ellen and has four children: Allison, 25, Madeline, 24, Margaret, 19, and Peter, 17; and two stepsons: Luke, 33, and Aaron, 31. He teaches general music education to kindergarten through eighth grades and religious studies to sixth through eighth grades at St. Charles School, Hartland. Olson graduated from Waukesha South High School in 1979, and earned his Bachelor of Science in music from Carroll College in 1986, and his master’s degree in education from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater in 1991.

His diaconal ministry will focus on baptisms and preaching at his parish, jail ministry at Waukesha County Jail and homebound and hospital visitation.

His Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 9, 8 and 9:30 a.m., at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, North Lake.

DennisPetrieDennis PetrieDennis Petrie, 55, a member of St. Anthony on the Lake Parish, Pewaukee, is married to Mary and they have four children and one grandchild: Tim, 28, (wife Carrie Madormo and daughter, Charlotte), Steve, 27 (wife Clare), Rob, 22, and Laura, 19.

Petrie, a program engineering manager at Rockwell Automation, Mequon, is a 1974 graduate of LP Goodrich High School, Fond du Lac. He earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1978; a Master of Science in 1980 and a Master of Business Administration in 1992, all from Marquette University, Milwaukee.

His diaconal ministry will include work with the memory impaired at Merrill Hills Manor, facilitating diaconal discernment sessions, work with the Common Ground Ministry in Waukesha County, and ministry at St. Anthony Parish, including baptisms, serving as deacon at liturgies and preaching at liturgies as assigned.

His Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 9, 10:45 a.m., at St. Anthony on the Lake Parish, Pewaukee.

GregoryPetroGregory D. PetroGregory D. Petro, 54, a member of St. Rita of Cascia Parish, Racine, is married to Jeri and has four children: Stephen, 28, David, 27, Rachel, 24, and Becca, 22. He is the president and CEO at Titan Inc. in Sturtevant, where he’s been employed since 1982. Petro graduated from Horlick High School, Racine, in 1976, and earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1980.

His diaconal ministry will focus on jail and prison ministry, hunger and poverty, homelessness, social justice and environmental concerns. Petro will serve at his parish and anywhere else he’s needed.

His Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 16, 10:30 a.m., at St. Rita of Cascia Parish, Racine.

EricSewellEric Martin SewellEric Martin Sewell, 57, a member of St. Sebastian Parish, Sturtevant, and St. Anthony, Kenosha, is married to Judith and they have two children, Matthew, 31, and Angela Zurawski, 36.

A 1973 graduate of Divine Word Seminary, East Troy, Sewell received a Bachelor of Science degree in business from the University of Wisconsin – Parkside in 1978 and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies (MAPS) degree from Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, in 2009, and has one unit clinical pastoral education from Aurora Hospitals. He is a chaplain at Allay Home and Hospice, Racine.

His diaconal ministry will focus on hospice care. He will also assist at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, Union Grove, and RCI Prison, Sturtevant.

His Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated on Sunday, Sept. 16, 8:30 a.m., at St. Sebastian Parish, Sturtevant.

RichardStanulaRichard J. StanulaRichard J. Stanula, 65, a member of St. Anne Parish, Pleasant Prairie, is married to Alice and has five children: Deborah, 42; Richard Jr., 40; Kevin, 38; Lindsey, 33, and Joseph, 30.

Stanula, custom quality relations manager for American Metal Technologies in Sturtevant, graduated from De La Salle High School in Chicago in 1965 and completed his certification in management in 1983 from Illinois Benedictine College in Lisle, Ill..

His diaconal ministry will include taking the Eucharist to hospitals, nursing homes and hospices and work with the homeless through the Inn’s Program at the Kenosha Christian Reformed Church.

His Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 9, 10:15 a.m., at St. Anne Church, Pleasant Prairie.

GaryStephaniGary StephaniGary Stephani, 58, a member of St. John Neumann and St. William parishes, Waukesha, is married to Dianne and has three adult children: Jennifer, Tracy and Justin.

Stephani has been a store manager at Walgreens since 1981. He graduated from Sacred Heart Seminary, a high school seminary in Oneida, in 1972, and earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 1976.

His diaconal ministry will focus on marriage preparation at St. John Neumann and St. William parishes, jail ministry at Waukesha County Jail, as well as visiting the sick and homebound.

His Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 9,10: 30 a.m., at St. John Neumann Parish, Waukesha.

ScottWieseScott WieseScott Wiese, 49, a member of St. Joseph Parish, Grafton, is married to Jenny and has two children, Ben, 23, and Emilee, 20. Wiese, whose home parish is St. Peter Claver Parish, Sheboygan, is a 1981 graduate of Sheboygan South High School.

A controller for Capitol Stampings Corp., Milwaukee, he graduated from St. Norbert College, DePere, in 1985, with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting.

His diaconal ministry will focus on marriage preparation and family ministry at St. Joseph Parish, Grafton. He will also assist with pastoral ministry to those who are sick, dying, elderly, grieving or imprisoned, and will be involved in service and advocacy for those who are poor and marginalized.

His Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 9, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Parish, Grafton.

DavidYoungDavid YoungDavid Young, 46, a member of Holy Angels Parish, West Bend, is married to Mary and they have three children: Christian, 14; Claire, 10; and Catherine, 3.

Young graduated from Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pa., in 1984, and earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1993 from De Sales University in Pennsylvania. He has been working as an at-home parent.

His diaconal ministry will include work with the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program and youth jail ministry.

His Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 9, 11 a.m., at Holy Angels Church, West Bend.
