(CNS)In today’s second reading, St. Paul reminds us: “We are ambassadors for Christ.” To assist you in carrying out your ambassadorship, Bishop David Ricken of Green Bay offers “10 things to remember for Lent.”

Speaking of Lent, look closely at the palm burning photo and you will see a cross formed by the flames. The image was shot Feb. 17 at St. Clement School, Chicago, by Karen Callaway of the Catholic New World.

By the numbers I: The Archdiocese of Milwaukee’s office for planning and councils is providing participants in the archdiocese’s district synod implementation gatherings a lot of numbers about the present and future state of the church in southeastern Wisconsin. Here’s one that is indicative of how Catholic life is changing –- and going to change: During the next five years, 64 priests will be eligible for retirement.

By the numbers II: Totally unrelated to the above, but as of Feb. 16, administrative and professional expenses in the archdiocese’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings are now slightly more than $17 million.

By the numbers III: Forty days. Let’s heed Pope Francis’ Lenten advice: “Please, let’s stop. Let’s pause a while and allow ourselves to be reconciled with God.”
